What is Bio Energy?

Bioenergy is a renewable energy from biological sources. BioEnergy Buddies use the Bioenergy we create for heat, electricity, lighting, production of products, and vehicle fuel.

How is bio Energy Made?

Animal waste and plants are the main source for biofuels which makes it renewable. The materials can be burned to generate power for many different things.


Sugarcane is one of the main sources for bioenergy. It is crushed and the pulp is extracted and burned. Other solid wastes can be used for burning to make steam like trash, manure, wood, algae, cornstalks, and other wastes.

Bioenergy provides many uses for the community. Bioenergy is useful when electricity, transportation, heating, lighting, and byproducts are needed.


The process of making electricity from biofuels is similar to how fossil fuels are made into electricity. The fuels are turned into steam and used to turn turbines which will turn generators. This allows us to get electrical power.

Bio energy is also used for powering cars. We have a different method when creating fuels for cars.The plants and wastes are fermented to get the alcohol out of it and is then transferred to biodiesel. Biodiesel is a fuel made by chemically reacting alcohol with vegetable oils, animal fats, or greases.


Finally, lighting is produced during a process called photosynthesis where plants capture sunlight and transform it into chemical energy. This energy may then be converted into electricity, heat, or liquid fuels using a number of different energy conversion processes.


How does Bio Energy Affect the Environment?

We use bioenergy for heat by burning wood and waste. Since we burn it, greenhouse gases are realeased which means when it's burned it releases CO2 like fossil fuels do. On the other hand, biomass will capture about the same amount of CO2 released when burned and let H2O out through photosynthesis while growing. Therefore, bioenergy is better for our environment.

Although biomass cleans the air, using bioenergy produces CO2 just like fossil fuels, so the risk may not be so big, but still not enough to say it's perfectly safe.

How does Bio Energy Affect the Economy?

Biofuel cost has been lowered to around $6 per gallon. The cost is now close to fossil fuels so it's easier to use. This energy source is renewable which means that we can continue with the production of biomass which could affect the economy positively in the future if fossil fuels ever run out. BioEnergy Buddies believe that advanced biofuels will help meet future needs if we can make it sustainable, scalable, and affordable to our customers.


For us to be successful, we must know about the environmental and economical issues of biomass while also being able to manufacture large amounts of it in the most efficient way but at the same time keeping it at a reasonable price.

Throughout the world?

U.S. Consumption: Even though biomass production is generally widespread, it is mostly produced in the southern plains, this includes California, the Corn Belt, and along the Mississippi River. 

Areas that are not shaded in may still produce biomass but in comparatively small amounts. 

Areas that are shaded in have big amounts of dry tons. The area color corresponds with the maximum number of dry tons that area can produce.
